United Way of Johnson County kicked of its 2015 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 20, with an Indy 500 themed breakfast and program hosted at Scott Hall on the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Over 300 volunteers and community members gathered to hear master of ceremonies Loren Snyder, with Hilliard Lyons, announce “The Greatest Spectacle in United Way!”
Special guest speaker J. Douglas Boles, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, spoke at the Kick-off sharing how Johnson County’s generous community spirit, where he spent summers with his grandparents as a boy, positively impacted his childhood and how those same core values are lived out through his work at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Snyder, with the help of John Lorentzen, United Way of Johnson County Campaign Chair, announced this year’s “winning purse” to meet the needs of Johnson County at an impressive $1,502,186, an increase of 2% over last year’s successful campaign.
The Indy 500 brings strangers, who otherwise may never meet, together as a community through their love of racing. United Way of Johnson County works the same way by bringing people in this community together to help our neighbors, coworkers and friends in times of need. As the needs of our residents continue to grow, the campaign volunteers know it is their responsibility to raise the money to address the increasing needs of the Johnson County community.
